Saturday Family Fun

We had a fun family day on Saturday. We spent the afternoon at Crowley's Ridge Nature Center at the Game & Fish Family Fun Day. They had lots of activities, free hot dogs, snow cones and lots of snakes!

Later in the evening we went to Chick-Fil-A's birthday party. They had balloon animals, face painting, bouncers and other things going on. Samuel was able to learn to milk a cow. And as many of you know - we need no excuse really to go to Chick-Fil-A.

And isn't it sort of wrong for a cow to milk a cow????

ASU Tailgating

Saturday evening we tailgated with the HDBC Crew prior to the football game. The first week we didn't take the boys, but this week we did. I did not intend to stay the whole game and said that I would leave by half-time. But some how when the end of the game came I was still there. Samuel had a lot of fun and I think Tyler enjoyed it although he was really tired. This coming weekend is homecoming and we might take the boys to tailgate for a bit, but they will be home with the sitter at game time.

Grossology

Saturday we took the boys to the new exhibit at the ASU Museum called Grossology. Some of it is really neat and some of it IS gross. Samuel thought it was a lot of fun. His favorite thing was the video game where you have to pick the things that should go into the urine and the stuff that should stay in the body. He also liked the big thing that burped! Here are a few pics from the day.

More on how it all began

First of all - Amy mentioned that we should buy the van. That's another funny part. About a year ago our church got ready to sell the old grey van affectionatly known as The Phantom (named by Packy Magel). In a business meeting as we talked about it, our pastor actually said "That old van actually holds a lot of memories for a lot of people. A lot of trips have been taken in that van." And I couldn't help but speak up. I said "Kevin and I met in that van and later started dating in that van." He instantly replied - "Want to buy a van?" I said "We talked about it, but no the memory is enough." I intended to take a picture of us in front of it before they got rid of it, but never did.

Also, Kevin read the post today and wanted me to add two - what he calls - "important" pieces to the story. On that Memphis shopping trip we ate at Chili's. Because there were several of us, they sat us at two tables across the isle from each other. At our table it was myself, Kevin and two other girls and he was talking smack with Packy across the isle at the other table about how great he was and how he was the mack daddy. So as we sit this listening to all of this, this very pretty girl walks up to the table and says the Kevin "Do I know you?" He said "I don't think so." She says "Hu, I could swear I know you from somewhere." He replies no but that he's from West Memphis. She says no, it must not be him and walks back to her table full of a bunch of giggling college girls. Kevin looks at Packy and says "See I told you." He LOVES that story!

Second story - So I had the boyfriend and Kevin and this other guy whom I was very interested in. He and I were really good friends and I worked part-time for his parents in the summer and on weekends that I went home. We were huge flirts and everyone in the mall where we worked couldn't believe that we weren't dating. So on the weekend I went home for Christmas I went straight to his house to tell him I was breaking up with the boyfriend. I spent a lot of the Christmas break with him telling him all about Kevin. It was all part of my plan you see. When I was with Kevin, I talked about the other guy. LOL I figured one of them would bite. So on the first night back at school after Christmas break I went skating with Kevin at FBC. When I got home I had a message to call the guy. His dad said he was in the shower, but should be out any minute and he would have him call me. So 2 minutes later the phone rings I say hello and he says hey. So I just start talking all about what Kevin and I had done that night and about holding hands while we skated and on and on and then the voice on the other end says "Who do you think this is?" Instantly I thought - oh no! It was Kevin, not the other guy. Kevin always jokes that he should have let me just keep going to he could find out exactly what all I thought about him. So what happened with the other guy? The weekend after I broke up with the boyfriend, I went home and went to see him. He instantly backed off and showed no interest. So I figured to heck with him and went forward with Kevin. A year later he told me that he was trying to give me some room and didn't know I would get into another serious relationship so soon. Sorry, wasn't meant to be I guess.

How it all began

A couple of months ago, many of my fellow bloggers told their story of how they met their spouse and about their dating life. I never got around to doing that at the time, but thought I would do it now.

Kevin and I met in the church van, The Phantom (that's what everyone called it), literally. He was a junior and I was a freshman and we were going with the BSU to a leadership conference in Little Rock. Being the one in the van from LR, I set shot-gun to help navigate. As we were driving, someone behind me kept pulling my hair as he would grab the back of my seat to turn around to flirt with the girls behind him. After a while, I turned around and said "Since you keep pulling my hair, I thought I would introduce myself, I'm Shaila." Now this is where the story differs. He said he then called me Sheila and I bit his head off, but I don't remember that part at all. Over that school year, we got to be friends. Not real close, but friends none the less. He and I both had girlfriend/boyfriends so not really looking I guess.

One year later on the same trip, a group of us were in one of the hotel rooms playing truth or dare. I was asked who I would go skinny dipping with. I said, "Oh that's easy, my boyfriend" (who was still back in LR, so most of them didn't know him). Then someone said "No, someone on this trip." So I said Kevin because I figured it was safe. It wasn't until much much later in our dating life that he told me he overheard his two roommates talking about it that night because they thought he was asleep. LOL At this point he had broken up with his girlfriend, but I was still with my very longterm boyfriend.

Later that semester, just before Christmas break we went on another trip in the same van to Memphis for a shopping trip with the college kids from our church. That's when we kind of seemed to officially hit it off. We spent the day shopping together and overtly flurting with each other. By the end of the night we were holding hands and he was playing with my hair. This is what began our "non-dating" period. Remember that boyfriend back home! LOL We went home right after this for Christmas break and I went home with every intention of breaking up with the boyfriend, but couldn't bring myself to do it after a close friend of their families died right after I got home. So I came back to school with nothing changed. But Kevin and I went on a couple of non-dates and were really good friends. About a week later the boyfriend picked a fight and that was history! Kevin and I started seeing each other everyday after that. That was January of my Sophomore year. He purposed in July between my Junior and Senior years and we were married one month after I graduated. We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this past June.

My Loot

I must be crazy - you would have to be to do what I did Monday. I was one of the hundreds of people that flocked to the Design Shoppe on Monday to grab up ASU stuff at 73% off. Prior the game, the store announced they would give as a discount the spread of the game. So since ASU won 83-10 on Saturday, every item in the store was 73% off. When I went, I knew they would be busy, but I in no way expected to spend the day there. I didn't even take Tyler's diaper bag. I pulled into the parking lot at 10:40, spent about 15 minutes picking out items and took my place in line. The people coming out of line said they had been in line 1 to 1 1/2 hours and I figured I had time to do that. Well, at 1 1/2 I was only half way to the checkout. But at that point, there was no way I was just walking out! Luckily Tyler had eaten breakfast just before we walked out the door, so he was good to go for a while. He eventually took a nap for over an hour and thankfully I had his stroller. As the day progressed, I visited with people I knew and shopped some more along the way. Finally, at 2:40 I reached the checkout with all of my purchases, plus things for 2 friends. At 3 p.m. I was in the car headed home. Did I get what I wanted? Yes. The main thing I wanted were jerseys for the boys and I got those, including one for Samuel in a little bit bigger size for the next year or two. I also got a couple M&M Nascar things. We are not Nascar fans, but we collect M&M's, so those will be good additions to our collection. Was it worth it? No. LOL If I had known I would spend the whole day checking out, I wouldn't have done it. But I did get a lot of good things that I never would have bought otherwise. Here's everything I got for us, excluding the boys ASU football which they were playing with when I took the picture. This does not include the things I got for friends.

Grandparent's Day at RCS

Friday was Grandparents day at Ridgefield. My parents are too far away for a short trip like that, but Kevin's mom was able to come. The grandparents got to see their classroom, help them with a craft, have a snack and meet their teacher. Samuel was just really excited to have a party at school.

Nursing Covers

I am beginning to have some items finished and ready to sell. In fact, I sold one of these this week which made me happy. I also have a sling finished and about dozen more that I will be finishing in the next week or so. I'm also working on a new blog to show all of my items, but until then I thought I would post here what I have done.

These are nursing covers for breastfeeding moms. They are great for nursing in public places or even in your home if you have company.

The strap has a D Ring slide so you can easily adjust it with one hand and bonning across the top so you can easily view baby without everyone else being able to do so.

Here are the fabrics I have finished.

These are $20 each and come with a matching storage bag to make them easy to keep in your diaper bag.

Ten Things Tuesday

I'm thankful for:

1. The cable guy that was able to quickly fix my Internet today.

2. That Samuel never got the stomach bug the rest of us had last week.

3. For my MIL who came and stayed the night Thursday night when Kevin and I were sick.

4. Free air at the gas station when my tire was low this morning, especially since I had no cash.

5. My new sewing machine I bought last night. Now I can finish all of my sewing projects I've started.

6. I have to mention ASU's win over Texas A&M Saturday - totally cool!

7. Free chicken strips last night at Chick-Fil-A, we all ate dinner for under $7.

8. Friends who I can call for no reason at all and who call me just to see what's going on that day.

9. Selling one of my handmade items this week, it was nice to have a little money to put back into what I've spent so far!

10. Friends who make cute stuff so my boys have cute things to wear. These are one of Amy's adorable shirts (http://www.angelaccents.blogspot.com/) given to the boys as a party favor at Raylee's birthday party a couple weeks ago.
